English abstract

This paper examines the basic concepts in information retrieval systems. After the introduction of the information retrieval problem, it briefly reviews the major components of an information retrieval system such as the document database, indexing, query formulation, and the user interface. It summarizes the retrieval rules and models (exact match, Boolean, probabilistic, vector space) and describes a few measures of retrieval effectiveness such as precision and recall. Finally, it discusses more advanced retrieval methods (i.e., relevance feedback and clustering) which are used to improve the effectiveness of information retrieval systems.

Bu çalışmada bilgi erişim sistemleriyle ilgili temel kavramlar incelenmektedir. Bilgi erişim sorununa kısaca bir göz atıldıktan sonra bir bilgi erişim sistemini oluşturan derme veri tabanı, belgelerin dizinlenmesi, sorgu cümlesi hazırlama, kullanıcı arabirimi gibi temel bileşenler kısaca açıklanmaktadır. Belli başlı erişim kuralları ve modeler (kesin çakışma ve olasılık kuramına dayanan erişim kuralları, Boole erişim kuralları, vector uzayı modeli) özetlenerek “erişim isabeti” ve “kesin isabet” gibi erişim etkinliği ölçüleri incelenmektedir. Bilgi erişim sistemlerinde erişim etkinliğini artırmak için kullanılan ilgililik geribildirimi (relevance feedback) ve kümeleme (clustering) yöntemlerine de değinilmektedir.
