English abstract

Despite the existence of many standards for bibliographic data formats (UNIMARC, USMARC, etc.) and communication protocols for library automation systems (Z39.50, ILL), problems such as multilingual data management, data interchange of different implementations of the same bibliographic standard still exist. Theses problems limit the library systems connectivity and interoperability thus impacting library communication and cooperation in general. The special character set used by the Greek language and its unreliable customized integrations with other characters sets, the use of different implementations of the same bibliographic format standard (ISO 2709) by the various library automation systems (no common framework exist) exacerbates the above mentioned problems. The acceptance and the implementation of new standards (such as UNICODE) to the already used systems and the creation of specific tools for bibliographic data conversion between the various data formats is the only way to achieve library automation systems' compatibility and communication, in national and international level. "Which new standards should be implemented?", "What is the lowest implementation level for the existing standards?", "What specific tools are required for libraries to be able to cooperate independently of the bibliographic data format they use?", are some of the main questions we have to answer in order to be able to achieve a basic level of library interoperability with the systems they use. A demonstration of how NDC's integrated library automation system (ABEKT) implements these standards, the procedures and specific tools that help and promote the Bibliographic data and library interoperability, will be presented.

Παρά την ύπαρξη αρκετών προτύπων, τόσο για την δομή των βιβλιογραφικών δεδομένων (UNIMARC, USMARC, κλπ.) όσο και για την επικοινωνία των αυτοματοποιημένων συστημάτων που τα υλοποιούν (Ζ39.50, ILL) εδώ και αρκετά χρόνια, προβλήματα όπως, η διαχείριση πολυγλωσσικών δεδομένων, η ανταλλαγή δεδομένων διαφορετικών υλοποιήσεων βιβλιογραφικών προτύπων δεν έχουν λυθεί σε επαρκή βαθμό. Αποτέλεσμα, η συνεργασία - επικοινωνία των συστημάτων πολλές φορές να είναι ανεπαρκής αν όχι αδύνατη, με άμεση επίπτωση στην συνεργασία των βιβλιοθηκών. Τα προβλήματα αυτά είναι ιδιαίτερα εμφανή στην Ελλάδα, λόγω της ιδιαιτερότητας του συνόλου χαρακτήρων της γλώσσας σε συνδυασμό με την αναγκαιότητα συνύπαρξης της με τις υπόλοιπες, αλλά και λόγω της χρήσης διαφορετικών υλοποιήσεων βιβλιογραφικών προτύπων με διαφορετικά συστήματα αυτοματισμού (σε σχέση με τον αριθμό των βιβλιοθηκών), χωρίς την ύπαρξη κοινού, απαραίτητου πλαισίου προσαρμογής τους. Η υιοθέτηση και υλοποίηση νέων προτύπων (όπως UNICODE), η περαιτέρω υλοποίηση των ήδη υπαρχόντων, καθώς και η δημιουργία βοηθητικών εργαλείων για την συνεργασία των βιβλιογραφικών προτύπων, είναι η μόνη προσέγγιση για την λύση των παραπάνω προβλημάτων σχετικά με την συνεργασία - επικοινωνία των βιβλιοθηκών, τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και στον διεθνή χώρο, σε επίπεδο συστημάτων. «Ποια είναι τα νέα πρότυπα που θα πρέπει να υλοποιηθούν;», «Ποιο είναι το ελάχιστο σημείο υλοποίησης των ήδη εφαρμοζομένων προτύπων που θα πρέπει να γίνει;», «Ποια είναι τα απαραίτητα εργαλεία που απαιτούνται έτσι ώστε η ύπαρξη διαφορετικών υλοποιήσεων βιβλιογραφικών προτύπων να μην επηρεάζει την συνεργασία επικοινωνία των βιβλιοθηκών;» είναι τα βασικά ερωτήματα που θα πρέπει να απαντηθούν για να είναι καταρχάς δυνατή η συνεργασία - επικοινωνία των συστημάτων και των βιβλιοθηκών που τα χρησιμοποιούν. Θα γίνει παρουσίαση του πως το ολοκληρωμένο σύστημα Αυτοματισμού Βιβλιοθηκών Εθνικού Κέντρου Τεκμηρίωσης (ΑΒΕΚΤ) προωθεί και υλοποιεί τα παραπάνω πρότυπα, καθώς και διαδικασιών και εργαλείων που συνδράμουν στην αντιμετώπιση των προβλημάτων διαλειτουργικότητας δεδομένων και βιβλιοθηκών.
