This paper describes the success of Wikipedia and how quality is achieved within the project. The legal base of Wikipedia and how it changes the view on reference books is also explained.

Ob sich mit Wikipedia der alte enzyklopädische Traum der vollständigen Erfassung des Wissens erfüllt? Das vielleicht nicht. Aber die Entwicklung von Wikipedia kommt der Erfüllung doch einige Schritte näher: Sechs Jahre nach Gründung der „freien Enzyklopädie“ gerät mehr als nur ein Segment des Buchmarktes in Bewegung. Gleichzeitig stehen die klassischen Konzepte von Autorität, Urheberschaft, das Verhältnis zwischen Autoren und Lesern und nicht zuletzt bestimmte kommerzielle Geschäftsmodelle zur Debatte.
