Abstract
This paper aims at designing a possible path of convergence between the Open Access and the Semantic Web communities. In section 1, it focuses on the problems that the current Web has to face to become a fully effective research means, with particular regard to the question of selection according to subjective quality criteria. Section 2 exposes the main principles and standards which lie behind the Open Access movement, and tries to demonstrate that the Open Access community is a fertile ground where to experiment Semantic Web technologies. Finally, section 3 sketches a number of practical strategies and suggests the combination of existing tools for e-Science, in order to create a real Semantic Web of scientific knowledge.
The proceedings of the 2nd Italian Semantic Web Workshop are published as volume 166 of the series 'CEUR Workshop Proceedings' (ISSN 1613-0073).
