W artykule zaprezentowano formy udzielania informacji drogą elektroniczną funkcjonujące obecnie w bibliotekach na świecie, od najprostszych opartych na poczcie elektronicznej do interaktywnych bazujących na technologii czat. Omówiono działanie różnych aplikacji ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem programów typu Web contact center, działających w pojedynczych bibliotekach i całych konsorcjach. Przedstawiono zasady wdrażania usług elektronicznych w bibliotekach oraz standardy IFLA i ALA. Na podstawie licznych artykułów zaprezentowano kilka danych liczbowych, wyników badań nad wykorzystaniem e-usług oraz problemy sygnalizowanych przez praktyków.

[English abstract]

The article presents various types of electronic (virtual, digital) reference services offered by libraries around the world, from the simplest ones e.g. e-mail to most advanced services such as interactive ones based on chat technology. The author describes the operation of different applications. Special attention has been paid to Web contact center software. Some examples of international and regional collaborative live reference services have been presented. Standards, guidelines and models of the introduction of virtual reference services (e.g. those of IFLA and ALA) are also reviewed. Basing on literature review, the article presents some statistical data, results of a survey of digital reference services and some issues mentioned by practitioners.
