Abstract

Suština elektronskih knjiga je u njihovom digitalnom obliku, lakoj
razmenljivosti i mogućnosti čitanja i pretraživanja na više uređaja. U
radu je dat kratak istorijat elektronskih knjiga, njihove osnovne karakteristike,
formati, kao i prednosti i mane u odnosu na klasične, štampane knjige.
Fenomen elektronskih knjiga nedovoljno je istražen u domaćoj literaturi,
s obzirom na mogućnosti i perspektive takvog oblika prenosa informacija
u vremenu sveprisutnog interneta. Jedan od razloga svakako je slabo razvijeno
tržište elektronskih knjiga kod nas, koje u svetu, pak, beleži stalni
rast, uprkos povremenim krizama koje pogađaju informacione tehnologije i
elektronsku industriju. Biblioteke imaju jednu od presudnih uloga u digitalizovanju
tradiocionalnih knjiga, zarad njihovog očuvanja, pružanja na uvid
svetskoj javnosti i lakšoj upotrebljivosti i razmenljivosti.

The essence of the electronic book is in its digital form, an easy
exchange and possibility of its reading and searching through on more than one
device. This paper gives a short history of the electronic book, its base features,
format as well as its advantages and disadvantages as compared to the conventional
printed book. The phenomenon of the electronic book has not been
researched enough in domestic literature in view of the possibilities and perspectives
of such a transfer of information in the times of the omnipresent
Internet. One of the reasons is surely a weakly developed market of the electronic
book with us which shows, however, throughout the world a steady growth in
spite of the periodical crises which affect the information technologies and the
electronic industry. The libraries have one of the decisive roles in digitalization
of the conventional book for the purpose of its conversation, extending to the
insight of the general public and an easier use and exchange.
