Abstract

En este trabajo hacemos uso de las nuevas técnicas de representación de la información, como el análisis de cocitación de sitios web (análisis de cositación) y el escalamiento multidimensional (MDS), para analizar de forma gráfica las relaciones que establecen entre sí los sitios web de universidades de diferentes países. Pretendemos demostrar que estas relaciones siguen un patrón geopolítico en lugar de académico, y que, por tanto, pueden ser consideradas cómo auténticos mapas "geopolíticos" de Internet. Este tipo de representaciones nos permiten obtener una instantánea de una región geográfica y un momento en el tiempo determinados, por lo que podrían ser utilizados como herramienta auxiliar para el análisis sociopolítico de la realidad.



[English abstract]

In this work we make use of the new information representation techniques, as the web sites co-citation analysis (co-sitation analysis) and the multidimensional scaling (MDS), in order to analyze graphically the relations between the web sites of universities from different countries. We try to demonstrate that these relations follow a geopolitical pattern and not an academic pattern, and therefore, they can be considerated authentic "geopolitical" maps of Internet. These representations types let us obtain a snapshot of one geographic region and one moment in time, so they could be used as a tool for sociopolitical analysis of the reality.
