En relación con el origen de los impresos efectuados empleando tipos móviles, la palabra incunable fue inicialmente utilizada al finalizar la tercera década del siglo XVII por Bernard von Mallinckorodt. Catorce años después es Philippe Labbé, con su Nova bibliotheca librorum manuscriptorum quien tiene en su haber el establecer el concepto arbitrario que llega a nuestros días para determinar si un impreso es o no incunable. Este trabajo propone una nueva definición, para dejar de lado el año de impresión, como factor determinante, e induce a considerar para tal fin la evolución del arte tipográfico de cada lugar.

In relation with the beginnings of printing using movable types, the name incunabulum was used for the very first time in the third decade of the XVII century by Bernard von Mollinckorodt. Fourteen years later Philippe Labbé, in his Nova biblioteca librorum manuscriptorum was who established the arbitrary concept that is in use nowdays to determinated if a printing is defined as an incunabulum or not. The purpose of this work is to redefine this, leaving aside the year of printing as a determining factor, try to considerate the evolution of the typographical art in each place.
