Hoffnungen und Verheißungen hinsichtlich positiver gesellschaftlicher Auswirkungen von Computern, vor allem Computernetzen und Datenbanken, werden dargestellt und aus philosophischer, soziologischer und informationswissenschaftlicher Sicht kritisch hinterfragt.

Promises and aspirations regarding positive societal effects of computers, especially computer networks and databases, are outlined. These promises are questioned critically from the point of view of philosophy, sociology and information science.
