Abstract

The talk delivered in the seminar on ‘Repositioning the information profession for the market place’ highlights the consequences of application ICT in libraries which in turn has caused the need for repositioning the profession. It appears that the roles and functions of both librarians and end-users are in transition. Identifying the trends as well as threats, the talk proposes some new roles/ functions of library professionals together with desired skills for fulfilling thes roles/functions. Also discusses the contents of programs for developing such skills among librarians to reposition the profession together with some do's and don’ts.
