English abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the existing collection strength, especially on Lingustics, in the Faculty of Humanities Library, Universitas Indonesia. Conspectus Model, a collection-based technique evaluation, is used on this qualitative research. The research was conducted on January - March 2006, which are involved subject specialist as evaluator, and students as the user. The research is also purposed to design initial framework of the academic library network in Jakarta, especially on Linguistics.

Indonesian abstract

Penelitian dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keadaan aktual koleksi buku untuk subjek Linguistik Umum di Perpustakaan Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya Universitas Indonesia. Dari deskripsi tersebut kemudian dapat diperoleh informasi mengenai peta kekuatan dan kelemahan koleksi menuju terbentuknya koleksi inti (core collection) untuk subjek Linguistik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Metode evaluasi yang digunakan adalah metode conspectus yang termasuk dalam kategori teknik evaluasi yang memfokuskan pada keadaan koleksi itu sendiri (collection-based technique) dengan mengambil objek penelitian di Perpustakaan Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya Universitas Indonesia. Selain untuk mengetahui kekuatan dan kelemahan koleksi, penelitian ini juga diharapkan dapat dijadikan paramater kualitas koleksi yang berguna untuk internal perpustakaan yakni pembenahan manajemen koleksi dan eksternal perpustakaan yakni sebagai dasar pertimbangan untuk pembentukan kerja sama perpustakaan perguruan tinggi untuk subjek sejenis. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa koleksi subjek Linguistik di Perpustakaan FIB berada pada kisaran 1a sampai 2b yang masih jauh dari level yang diharapkan oleh evaluator yakni 5F. Penilaian terhadap kekuatan koleksi yang dilakukan oleh evaluator pada kenyataannya sangat dipengaruhi oleh variasi judul-judul yang tersedia. Analisis bahasa pada subjek linguistik memperlihatkan bahwa mayoritas koleksi untuk tiap kelas memiliki indikator E yang berarti bahan literatur berbahasa Inggris mendominasi. Cakupan kronologis pada subjek linguistik bisa dikatakan kurang relevan dengan kebutuhan informasi yang mutakhir. Bahan literatur terbitan 5 tahun terakhir hanya mencapai 3%.di mana idealnya mencapai 10%.
