English abstract

The University of Macedonia Library received funding from the 2nd and 3rd Operational Programme for Education and Initial Vocational Training under which it developed a series of services and tools aiming at supporting its customers in the most effective way. By setting: a) the provision of qualitative services and the most effective communication with the public served as its primary goals (both internal and external users), the Library, designed a number of actions to assess: a) the customers’ needs in terms of material, services and procedures and b) the level of customers’ satisfaction by the already provided services and tools. Data gathered from these actions was used to define the Library’s new communication plan as part the its whole strategic planning. To achieve the above, the Library cooperated with experts in the field of research to design and perform: a) a user needs analysis survey, b) a user satisfaction analysis survey (according to ARL’s LibQUAL+™ in an enhanced form), c) a new communication plan (marketing plan) and d) several types of promotional material. The Library’s new marketing plan will be implemented from the beginning of the academic year 2008-2009 (September 2008-September 2009). In September 2009 a new survey will be conducted to assess the plan’s effectiveness.
