English abstract

This paper seeks to bring the Spanish scope reflections and research that have been developed in other countries, especially in the Anglo-Saxon area in which to professional ethics in Librarianship refers. Arises, therefore, a research mainly historical or even for what might be called comparative library and also descriptive ethics, but also in this research an analysis shall activity library from a social perspective, and the own professional design of this activity. This double perspective, social and professional, is to emphasise the nature of public service that has the profession librarian, and social and professional responsibility therefore acquired by own occupation, responsibility repeatedly mentioned in the literature on professional ethics in library science.

Spanish abstract

Con el presente trabajo se busca traer al ámbito español las reflexiones e investigaciones que se han desarrollado en otros países, especialmente en el ámbito anglosajón en lo que a ética profesional en Biblioteconomía se refiere. Se plantea, por tanto, una investigación de carácter principalmente histórico o incluso de lo que se podría llamar Biblioteconomía comparada y también en la Ética descriptiva, pero además en esta investigación se realizará un análisis de la actividad bibliotecaria desde una perspectiva social, y de la propia concepción profesional de esta actividad. Con esta doble perspectiva, social y profesional, se quiere hacer hincapié en el carácter de servicio público que tiene la profesión bibliotecaria, y la responsabilidad social y profesional que, en consecuencia, se adquiere por el propio ejercicio profesional, responsabilidad repetidamente mencionada en la literatura sobre Ética profesional en Biblioteconomía.
