Como un acercamiento a las diferentes intervenciones (roles e interrelaciones) que tiene la alfabetización informacional (ALFIN) en distintos sectores de la sociedad, y como un intento de resaltar su importancia dentro de las competencias que todo profesional y ciudadano debe tener en el siglo XXI, podría caracterizarse en términos generales este reciente libro del bibliotecólogo, gestor de contenidos y docente, Emmett Lombard, de la Universidad de Gannon, en Estados Unidos.
