English abstract

This thesis pursues the purpose of certifying how the publisher's work changes with regard to the shift of the publishing industry from the traditional book to the digital e-book, and which problems will be arisen from the digitalization of this business. Arguments are based on industry data, such as data from the Association of American Publishers and the Associazione Italiana degli Editori, musings by professionals written on their blogs and newspapers, and finally on the most recent conferences focused on the future of publishing.

L'obiettivo di questo lavoro di tesi è attestare come cambia il mestiere dell'editore in relazione al passaggio dell'industria editoriale da un prodotto rimasto per secoli sostanzialmente invariato come il libro a stampa ad un prodotto digitale come l'e-book, ed ai problemi che esso comporta. Le riflessioni sono state basate sui dati forniti da protagonisti dell'industria stessa, come l'Association of American Publishers e l'Associazione Italiana Editori, sui numerosi siti e blog professionali dove vengono dibattute le questioni più pressanti che scaturiscono dalla digitalizzazione della filiera editoriale, e sui più recenti convegni incentrati sull'e-book.
