English abstract

This article describes basic characteristics of YouTube portal, explains its importance and provided services. The first part of this article is applied to basic characteristics of YouTube portal, the second part deals with processes related to videos on YouTube. YouTube users, YouTube partners and projects are mainspring of the third part of this article. Special subchapter outlines possibilites of YouTube in relation to information studies and librarianship. At the end of the fourth chapter user offences are mentioned. The last part of this article is short summary including challenges, which will YouTube probably have to face.

Czech abstract

Tento článek popisuje základní charakteristiky portálu YouTube, objasňuje jeho důležitost a poskytované služby. První část tohoto článku se zabývá základními charakteristikami portálu YouTube, druhá část je věnována procesům souvisejícím s videem na YouTube. Hlavní náplní třetí části tohoto článku jsou uživatelé, partneři a projekty YouTube. Samostatná podkapitola nastiňuje možnosti portálu YouTube vzhledem k informačním studiím a knihovnictví. Konec čtvrté části článku zmiňuje uživatelské postihy. Poslední část tohoto článku je krátké shrnutí, obsahující výzvy, jimž bude YouTube pravděpodobně muset čelit.
