English abstract

Current information science is characterized by the loss of problem-solving competencies and a discipline specific core of scientific methods. Representatives of Information science and practice have a less developed understanding of the quality standards to be observed. Contrary to what is often argued, significant causes for the loss of significance are located inside the information profession. The information profession and their professionals have a significant responsibility for this state. Suggestions are made to achieve at a new unterstanding of the academic discipline Information science.

German abstract

Die gegenwärtige Informationswissenschaft ist gekennzeichnet durch den Verlust der Problemlösungs-kompetenz für Zukunftsfragen und eines konstituierenden wissenschaftlichen Methodenkerns. Die Vertreter der Informationswissenschaft und -praxis haben gemessen an ihrem artikulierten Anspruch ein unterentwickeltes Verständnis der von ihnen zu beachtenden Qualitätsstandards. Anders, als in aktuellen Diskussionsverläufen gerne argumentiert wird, liegen wesentliche Ursachen für Rückbau nicht außerhalb, sondern innerhalb der Informationsprofession. Die Informationspraxis und die Information Professionals haben einen maßgeblichen Anteil an diesem Zustand. Es werden Vorschläge zu einer Neuorientierung der Informationswissenschaft gemacht.
