English abstract

In this presentation Titia van der Werf will give a brief update of what OCLC Research is doing in the linked data space. She will discuss some of the experiments which data scientists at OCLC Research are carrying out: mining WorldCat and liberating entities from MARC data; trying out the challenges of publishing, consuming and visualizing linked data resources; extending the scope of authority control and leveraging the wealth of multi-lingual bibliographic structures. She will share the results of an international survey which her colleague Karen Smith-Yoshimura carried out among linked data implementers in the library community. Her presentation will take you through a journey that has only begun and that will require concerted and cumulative effort – because the Web of data doesn’t organize itself.
