English abstract

The contribution redefines libraries as information centers upon principles of librarianship and stresses the importance of information as raw material of knowledge. Further it deals with problems in evidenting information services, evaluating the quality of information, relation price/value, charging, and access to information. It comes to the conclusion that the aim of progressive information policy is adequate information infrastructure.

Slovenian abstract

Prispevek oblikuje na načelih bibliotekarstva novo definicijo knjižnice kot informacijskega središča in poudarja pomen informacije kot surovine znanja. Obravnava probleme evidentiranja informacijskih storitev in vrednotenja kvalitete informacij, razmerje med ceno in vrednostjo informacije ter vprašanja plačevanja in dostopnosti informacij. V zaključku ugotovi, da je primerna informacijska infrastruktura cilj napredne informacijske politike.
