English abstract

Simple and complex organizations, as are libraries and the library systems, are compelled to adjusting to their budgets, which must provide for a variety of needs, moreover they opt for excellence in their inner performance and in their service to users. It is thus interesting to employ techniques and tools for optimizing their resources' allocation and their efficiency, by choosing their most appropriate location and by the most rational task share among their personnel, like Mathematical Programming, and the way to implement it is through a modeling language. The degree of difficulty of the mathematics necessary for the formulation and solution of the problems found in libraries is low, and the investment in mastering a modeling language by a sizeable group of librarians would pay off with the implementation of specific models for the library consortium.

Spanish abstract

Las organizaciones simples y complejas, como son bibliotecas y sistemas bibliotecarios, se ven obligadas a ajustarse a sus presupuestos, que deben satisfacer una variedad de necesidades, además de optar por la excelencia en su desempeño interno y en su servicio a los usuarios. Por lo tanto, es interesante emplear técnicas y herramientas que permitan optimizar su asignación de recursos y su eficiencia, eligiendo su ubicación más adecuada y el reparto de tareas más racional entre su personal, como la Programación Matemática, y la forma de implementarlo es a través de un lenguaje de modelado. El grado de dificultad de las matemáticas necesarias para la formulación y solución de los problemas encontrados en las bibliotecas es bajo, y la inversión en el dominio de un lenguaje de modelado por parte de un considerable grupo de bibliotecarios daría frutos con la implementación de modelos específicos para el conjunto de las bibliotecas.
