English abstract

This paper shows how often the traditional publishing is useless for scientific research because scholastic materials should be available for the scientific community as soon as possible. In fact, we must consider that many documents, such as pre-print, grey-literature, reports, meeting papers, documents pre- or post- edition, are useful materials for growing of any subjects. Nowadays, for scientific studying the immediately available of these kinds of documents is a main need. Moreover, with the WWW and specific software for managing of e-prints is possible building an Open Archive of electronic documents. Consequently, it will be possible that research workers all over the world may read and obtain the most recent result of research realized, as a free format.

Italian abstract

Le pubblicazioni di tipo tradizionale divengono spesso una barriera all'accesso dei lavori scientifici che invece dovrebbero essere messi a disposizione della comunità nel più breve tempo possibile. I pre-print e i lavori intellettuali considerati tradizionalmente come "letteratura grigia", rapporti tecnici, relazioni ai convegni, atti di congressi, documenti progettuali, documenti pre e post pubblicazione, sono una fonte preziosa per lo sviluppo di qualsiasi settore disciplinare. Per i settori scientifici la disponibilità immediata della letteratura prodotta è ormai una necessità non più prorogabile. Grazie alla tecnologia Web e alla disponibilità di adeguati software per la gestione degli e-prints, è possibile implementare un "archivio aperto" (Open Archive) di documenti elettronici, in modo da eliminare tali barriere, rendendo i documenti prodotti dagli studiosi liberamente accessibili e a disposizione della comunita'.
