English abstract

The role of the librarian in education is something that has been analyzed from different perspectives and according to the current needs of society. Within the so-called Information and Knowledge Societies, it is increasingly determining to count not only with a mediator of information but with a manager and facilitator of access to it, and must be inser-ted into the evolution and acceleration of development of ICT to meet the expectations and needs that society demands as a profession. The evolution of the educational role of the librarian is approached from its function as an instructor for users to learn how to use the collections, through the process of seek of infor-mation and reach to the so-called Information Literacy and Technological Literacy, born with the arrival of globalization and use of ICT. Finally the importance of the relationship of librarianship and teaching within the framework of the Information Society to move to the Knowledge society is explored.

Spanish abstract

El papel del bibliotecólogo en la educación es algo que se ha analizado desde diferentes enfoques y según las necesidades actuales de la sociedad. Dentro de las llamadas Sociedades de la Información y del Conocimiento, es cada vez más determinante el contar no sólo con un mediador de información sino con un gestor y facilitador del acceso a la misma. Por lo que la bibliotecología debe insertarse en la evolución y aceleración del desarrollo de las TIC para cumplir las expectativas y necesidades de la sociedad que le demanda como profesión. En este artículo se aborda la evolución del papel educativo del bibliotecólogo desde su función como instructor para que los usuarios aprendieran a utilizar los acervos, pasando por el proceso de búsqueda de la información y hasta llegar a las llamadas Alfabetización Informativa y Alfabetización Tecnológica, que nacen con el auge de la globalización y uso de las TIC. Por último, se explora la importancia de la relación de la bibliotecología y la didáctica en el marco de la Sociedad de la Información y su paso a la Sociedad del Conoci-miento.
