English abstract

All the web - All the TimeTM Fast Search (http://www.alltheweb.com/) is the trademark of a product which appeared on the international search engines market with well defined ambitions: being able – in a short time – to ‘catalog’ all (or the majority of) the web sites. Born in 1997 among experts from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, FAST aimed at providing a product matching two needs (need that then and now are prioritary in the world of information users): efficiency and rapidity in information retrieve and download time for texts and above all for immages (both still and moving).

All the web - All the TimeTM Fast Search (http://www.alltheweb.com/) è il marchio di un prodotto che si è presentato sul mercato internazionale dei motori di ricerca con ambizioni ben precise: divenire in breve tempo in grado di censire il maggior numero di siti web, anzi di presentarli tutti. Nata nel 1997 da esperti provenienti dalla Norwegian University of Science and Technology, la FAST si pose l’obiettivo di fornire un prodotto che andasse incontro a due esigenze che indubbiamente emergevano allora come oggi come prioritarie nel mondo dei fruitori di informazione: l’efficienza e la rapidità del suo reperimento e l’abbattimento dei tempi di download dei testi, ma soprattutto delle immagini, sia fisse che in movimento.
