English abstract

The paper deals with current EU documents giving outlines on the type of university that the European Union would like to have. European universities founded in different times follow different cultural and social traditions. Present differencies in academic programmes and degrees are likely to hinder the free movement of EU citizens and their ability to find employment i nanother EU country. Also, European universities can hardly compete with American in the quality of programmes offered and in ther attractiveness to students. The Bologna Declaration and the following documents on the universities in Europe determine the basic principles upon which the reform of universities should be based. The paper attempts to show the implications the Bologna process will have for the LIS study programme at th University of Zagreb.

Croatian abstract

U radu su prikazane osnovne značajke suvremenih europskih dokumenata o sveučilištu kakvo Europa želi imati. Europska su sveučilišta nastala u različitim razdoboljima i plod su različitih kulturnih i društvenih tradicija.Različitost sttudija i akaedmskih stupnjeva otežava pokretljivost stanovnika Europske unije i mogućnost njihova zapošljavanja u zemlji u kojoj se nisu školovali. Usto, europska sveučilišta teško mogu konkurirati američkim u slijeđenju suvremenih gospodarskih i društvenih promjena. Ti su razlozi doveli do nastanka Bolonjske deklaracije i drugih dokumenata u kojima se utvrđuju osnovna načela na kojima treba počivati suvremena europska sveučilišna nastava. U radu se prikazuje kako su novosti koje donosi Bolonjski proces, utemeljenje studija na sposobnostima (kompetencijama) za obavljanje stručnih poslova, jednopredmetnost i dvostupanjska organizacija studija prihvaćene u prijedlogu novog studija bibliotekarstva na Sveučilištu u Zagrebu.
