English abstract

Conference wich is a very brief synthesis about marketing for libraries. It states that to see the library as an organization of service, requires to have a marketing perspective. From this point of view, the service is one of the elments of marketing, besides the collection and the extension programs. Marketing is tightly bonded to strategic plannification and it is vital, essencial, in a program of marketing. It is related with mission. It is necessary to identify some options of service or product and examine it in accordance with its potential vale for the institution. It is needed to have in mind which is library’s goal, which opportunities have to develop its activity wihtin its environmet and which value has this activity for the institution. It embraces the following steps: Analysis of market opportunites, Selection of the target market, Strategy, Prodcut, Distribution, Promotion, Price, System of marketing. As far as users or customers, these are divided into internal and external. The term implies a payment for a product or service and reflects better what is now happening between library and the comunity. With this term, the myth of the library of free access and services vanishes and it is reached a more sharp concept for service.

Spanish abstract

Conferencia que es una muy apretada síntesis sobre marketing en bibliotecas. Sostiene que visualizar a la biblioteca como una organización de servicio, requiere tener una perspectiva de maketing. Desde este punto de vista, el servicio es uno de los componentes del marketing, además de la colección y los programas de extensión. El marketing está estrechamente vinculado con la planificación estratégica y a su vez es vital, esencial, en un programa de marketing. El marketin tiene relación con la misión. Se identifican varias opciones de servicio o producto y se examinan en base a su valor potencial para la institución. Es necesario tener presente cual es la misión de la biblioteca, que oportunidades tiene para desarrollar su actividad en su entorno y que valor dicha actividad tiene para la institución. Este comprende los siguientes pasos: Análisis de oportunidades del mercado, Selección del mercado meta, Estrategia, Producto, Plaza o distribución, Promoción, Precio, Sistema de marketing. En cuanto a usuarios o clientes, los divide en internos y externos y dice que implica pago por un producto o servicio y que refleja mejor lo que sucede actualmente entre la biblioteca y la gente en la comunidad. Con éste término el mito de la biblioteca de libre acceso y servicio se desvanece y se llega a un más exacto concepto para servicio.
