English abstract

The article aims in the creation of the basic conceptual model of a “Collaborative System of Hellenic Academic Libraries”. A systemic approach is followed, according to which the Academic Library is considered as an open system of purposeful human activities that interacts with several subsystems of its environment. Because of the particular impact of the New Information Technologies in the physiognomy, the role and the operations of the developing hybrid Academic Libraries, the particular and unique attributes that characterize the digital information as an immaterial good are tracked down. Through the study of the historical and technological stages of the development of the American and the Hellenic Academic Libraries, the factors that have influenced their configuration are examined and an explanation of the evolution of their collaborative forms is attempted. The characteristics of the emerging Paradigm of the scholar communication are detected and incorporated in the functional subsystems of the model: Enactment and administrative organisation, communal collection of electronic journals, communal collection of databases, Union Catalogue, Permanent Committees of Cataloguing, Interlibrary lending, Coordinated development of subject portals, Co-ordination and development of local and subject electronic repositories and digital collections, Integrated and personalised access to electronic services, Services and alternative material for blind users, Training of academic library and information scientists. Based on the model, the Collaborative System is expected to be effectively adapted in the challenges and possibilities of the digital-networked environment and to ensure the libraries the capability to offer services that would not be in position to offer acting individually.

Το άρθρο αποσκοπεί στη δημιουργία του βασικού νοητικού υποδείγματος (conceptual model) ενός «Συστήματος Συνεργασίας Ελληνικών Ακαδημαϊκών Βιβλιοθηκών». Ακολουθεί μια συστημική προσέγγιση, κατά την οποία η Ακαδημαϊκή Βιβλιοθήκη εκλαμβάνεται ως ανοιχτό σύστημα ένσκοπων ανθρώπινων δραστηριοτήτων που αλληλεπιδρά με αρκετά υποσυστήματα του περιβάλλοντος. Λόγω της ιδιαίτερης επίδρασης των Νέων Τεχνολογιών Πληροφόρησης στη φυσιογνωμία, το ρόλο και τις λειτουργίες των αναπτυσσόμενων υβριδικών Ακαδημαϊκών Βιβλιοθηκών, εντοπίζονται οι ιδιαίτερες και μοναδικές ιδιότητες που χαρακτηρίζουν την ψηφιακή πληροφορία ως άυλο αγαθό. Μέσα από τη διερεύνηση των ιστορικών και τεχνολογικών σταδίων ανάπτυξης των Αμερικανικών και Ελληνικών Ακαδημαϊκών Βιβλιοθηκών, εξετάζονται οι παράγοντες που επηρέασαν τη διαμόρφωσή τους και επιχειρείται η ερμηνεία της εξέλιξης των συνεργατικών σχημάτων τους. Ανιχνεύονται τα χαρακτηριστικά του αναδυόμενου Παραδείγματος επιστημονικής επικοινωνίας, τα οποία ενσωματώνονται στα λειτουργικά υποσυστήματα του υποδείγματος: Θεσμοθέτηση και διοικητική οργάνωση, Κοινόχρηστη συλλογή ηλεκτρονικών περιοδικών, Κοινόχρηστη συλλογή βάσεων δεδομένων, Συλλογικός Κατάλογος, Διαρκείς Επιτροπές Καταλογογράφησης, Διαδανεισμός, Συντονισμένη δημιουργία Θεματικών Πυλών, Ανάπτυξη - συντονισμός τοπικών και θεματικών ηλεκτρονικών καταθετηρίων και ψηφιακών συλλογών, Ολοκληρωμένη και εξατομικευμένη πρόσβαση στις ηλεκτρονικές υπηρεσίες, Υπηρεσίες και εναλλακτικό υλικό για τυφλούς χρήστες, Κατάρτιση ακαδημαϊκών βιβλιοθηκονόμων. Με βάση το υπόδειγμα, το Σύστημα Συνεργασίας θα είναι σε θέση να προσαρμόζεται αποτελεσματικά στις προκλήσεις και δυνατότητες του ψηφιακού-δικτυακού περιβάλλοντος και να εξασφαλίζει στις βιβλιοθήκες τις δυνατότητες να προσφέρουν υπηρεσίες που δεν θα ήσαν σε θέση να προσφέρουν ενεργώντας μεμονωμένα.
