Report of the congress Institutional archives for research: experiences in Open Access, held in Rome on November 30th-december 1st 2006 at the Italian Istituto Superiore di Sanità. Taking the presentations of the participants (Jean-Claude Guédon, Derek Law, Francis André, Peter Morgan the foreign guests, Comba, Fantoni, Delle Donne, De Robbio, Gargiulo, Mornati among the Italians) as a starting point, the report tries to focus on critical points of the present Open Access pathways: new experiences in Europe; the most useful working tools (projects in progress, gateways, search engines, directories); the need of a cultural change among the community of researchers and the new synergies to be actuated between researchers and information specialists to achieve a new open scholarly communication; the hypotheses of new metrics and new assessment models according to recent studies on impact; the traditional publishers’ policies and the funding agencies’ ones; the opportunity that OA offers to a research free from other interest; news about copyright.

Resoconto del convegno Institutional archives for research: experiences in Open Access, tenutosi a Roma il 30 novembre-1 dicembre 2006 presso l’Istituto Superiore di Sanità. Secondo gli spunti offerti dagli interventi dei partecipanti (Jean-Claude Guédon, Derek Law, Francis André, Peter Morgan gli ospiti stranieri, Comba, Fantoni, Delle Donne, De Robbio, Gargiulo, Mornati fra gli italiani), si è cercato di mettere a fuoco i punti critici del momento attuale dell’Open Access: le esperienze in ambito europeo; gli strumenti di lavoro (progetti, portali, motori di ricerca, directories); la necessità di un cambiamento culturale fra i ricercatori insieme alle inedite sinergie da creare fra i ricercatori stessi e gli esperti dell’informazione per una nuova comunicazione scientifica più aperta; le ipotesi di nuove metriche e nuove modalità di valutazione sulla base dei recenti studi sull’impatto; le nuove politiche degli editori e degli enti di finanziamento della ricerca; le possibilità offerte dall’open access per una ricerca più libera e svincolata da altri interessi; le novità in materia di copyright.
