English abstract

The paper depicts some chosen misconceptions about the Internet and its function in the scholarly information and communication processes. The myths described are connected with the open access to scholarly resources, scientific publishing on the Web and information retrieval and searching. The implications of those myths are indicated. The role of information and library science and profession in coping with the problem is stressed.

Artykuł poświęcony jest wybranym nieporozumieniom na temat Internetu i jego funkcji w informacji i komunikacji naukowej. Opisane w tekście mity dotyczą bezpłatnego dostępu do zasobów naukowych, publikowania w WWW oraz wyszukiwania informacji w Sieci. Wskazano ich źródła oraz skutki. Zwrócono uwagę na rolę informacji naukowej i bibliotekoznawstwa w rozwiązywaniu problemów z nimi związanych.
