Στην παρούσα εισήγηση γίνεται διερεύ­νηση και καταγραφή των παραγόντων που επηρεάζουν έμμεσα ή άμεσα τη χρήση των CD-ROMs στις ακαδημαϊκές βιβλιοθήκες ως μέσο συλλογής, αποθή­κευσης, αρχειοθέτησης, διαχείρισης και διακίνησης του υλικού τους. Οι παράγο­ντες αυτοί είναι: οικονομικοί, υλικοτεχνι­κής υποδομής, επιλογής και διαχείρισης, εκπαίδευσης προσωπικού και χρηστών, προβολής των υπηρεσιών, δυνατοτήτων μέτρησης της χρήσης τους και τήρησης στατιστικών. Επίσης, γίνεται προσπάθεια σύγκρισης της on-line (μέσω Internet) και της off­line (CD-ROMs) διαχείρισης μεγάλου ό­γκου πληροφοριών από την άποψη των τεχνικών και οικονομικών απαιτήσεων, υπό το πρίσμα της γενικότερης επανε­ξέτασης του θέματος από τις ακαδημαϊ­κές βιβλιοθήκες, μετά τη ραγδαία ανά­πτυξη του Internet και τη χρησιμοποίηση του πλέον ως αξιόπιστη πηγή πληροφό­ρησης. Τέλος, παρουσιάζονται κάποιες εκτιμή­σεις για το μέλλον αυτών των μορφών άντλησης πληροφοριών.

[English Abstract]
This paper tries to identify, record and explore all factors affecting directly or indirectly the usage of CD-ROMs in the academic libraries as a medium of col¬lection, storage, archiving, management and circulation of their material. These aspects are economics, infrastructure, selection and handling, staff and user education, services marketing, usage measurement and record keeping abilities.
It also tries to compare the on-line {through Internet) and the off-line (though CD-ROMs) handling of big amounts of information in the meaning of technical and economic require¬ments under the academic libraries' reappraisal prism of such mediums, after the radical development of the Internet and its usage as a reliable source of information in many cases.
Finally, some estimation is made for the future of such materials like the CD-ROMs and the Internet as information storage and circulation mediums.
